Welcome Journalism Class
This page is your home base for everything we do in journalism. This is where you will find your weekly lessons. In this class, you are not just completing assignments. You are learning how to see the world like a storyteller. Journalists observe, ask questions, listen carefully, and share truth through words and images. Every article, photo, and project you create will help build a real class publication that represents your voice and your work.

What Journalism Is
Journalism is the art of telling real stories. It is about writing news that informs people, features that inspire readers, and visuals that help others understand what is happening around them. In this class, you will learn how to write articles, conduct interviews, take meaningful photographs, and work together as a team to create a monthly newspaper.
We focus on truth, clarity, and responsibility in communication. As Proverbs 12:22 reminds us, “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.” In journalism, trust matters. Your words have value.
What We Do in Class
Each week you will learn a new skill and apply it immediately. Some of the things you will learn include writing strong leads, building news stories, creating feature articles, capturing storytelling photography, and editing your work for publication.
You will also learn how a newsroom functions. That means learning how to meet deadlines, work with editors, and revise your work based on feedback. Everything you do connects to our class newspaper, which we build together throughout the year.
Weekly Focus
Each week has a specific focus so you always know what skill you are building. Some weeks will focus on writing, some on photography, some on interviewing, and others on editing and design. By the end of the year, all of these pieces come together into a full publication that reflects your growth.
Assignments and Expectations
Your assignments are designed to prepare you for real journalism work. You will be expected to complete writing tasks, participate in class discussions, and submit work on time. Deadlines matter because journalism is built on timing and accuracy.
You will also revise your work. Good journalism is not written in one draft. It is shaped through feedback, correction, and improvement.
Student Roles
In a real newsroom, everyone has a role. In this class, you will experience that structure. Students may work as writers, photographers, editors, or designers. Each role is important because every part contributes to the final publication.
Working in roles also helps you understand teamwork. No article is created alone. Every story is supported by collaboration.
Inspiration and Purpose
We begin class often with scripture because truth and integrity are the foundation of communication. John 8:32 says, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Journalism is about seeking truth and sharing it responsibly.
Your work matters. The way you observe the world, the questions you ask, and the stories you choose to tell all have meaning.
Student Work and Growth
Throughout the year, your work will grow and improve. You will see your writing become clearer, your photography become stronger, and your confidence increase. Selected student work will be featured in our class publication so you can see your progress in action.
Resources and Submissions
All assignments, writing guides, and resources will be available through our Google Classroom platform. You will submit your work digitally, and feedback will be given to help you improve.
This page will always be your guide as you move through the year. Journalism is a journey of learning how to see, think, and communicate with purpose.
