What Is a Yearbook and Why It Matters
Habakkuk 2:2
“Write the vision and make it plain.”

What is a yearbook?
A yearbook is more than just a book of pictures. It is a collection of memories, stories, and moments that represent a full year of life. It captures friendships, events, growth, and experiences that students will look back on for years to come.
Yearbooks matter because they preserve history. Long after the school year is over, the yearbook becomes a reminder of what was meaningful, fun, challenging, and important. In this class, you are not just making pages. You are creating something that will last.
Overview of TreeRing
TreeRing is the platform we will use to design and build our yearbook. It allows us to:
- Create and design pages digitally
- Upload photos and organize them
- Add text, captions, and stories
- Work together as a team on different sections
You will each have access to TreeRing, where you will help bring your ideas to life and contribute to the final book.
Yearbook Roles
Each student will have a role, but we will also work together as a team. Your role helps you focus on a specific part of the yearbook process.
- Editor: Oversees content, checks for accuracy, and helps keep everything organized
- Designer: Creates layouts, chooses fonts and colors, and makes pages visually appealing
- Photographer: Takes and selects photos that capture important moments
- Writer: Writes captions, headlines, and short stories that go with the images
Everyone will contribute ideas and help each other, but your role gives you leadership in a specific area.
In-Class Activity
You will explore past yearbooks to see different styles, layouts, and ideas. Pay attention to what stands out to you and what makes a page interesting or memorable.
Homework
Write down 3 ideas for yearbook pages you would like to create.
Think about:
